The most direct painting in the group. The outline of Africa, drawn in a heavy black line, is filled edge to edge with red, ochre, teal, green and blue, no colour allowed to settle into a border of its own. Around it the ground is pale and worked thick, a quiet field that lets the continent carry all the weight. Uhuru is Swahili for freedom, the word Tanzania carried into independence.
